2017 WASBO Foundation Spring Scholarship Golf & Bike Outings

Hit
the greens or jump on your bike to support over $21,000 in student
scholarships awarded by WASBO annually to deserving Wisconsin high
school seniors! Network on Wednesday, May 10 with district
professionals and those who provide products and services to Wisconsin
schools, then join us for two days of powerful professional development
at the WASBO Foundation Spring Conference & Exhibits. WASBO offers
two different fundraising activities. Golfers have the opportunity to
play 18 holes at either Cedar Creek or Fox Hollow Golf Courses in the La Crosse area, while bikers will ride the Trempeleau Trail.
WASBO Scholarship Golf Outing
The Scholarship Golf Outing will be held rain or shine, on Wednesday,
May 10 at Cedar Creek and Fox Hollow, locations listed below. Since we are split between two courses this year, registrants may request the course they would most like to be at. WASBO will work to honor requests, however, it is possible that a request cannot be met. Registration check-in is available from 8:30-10 AM, and
opportunities to hit on the practice range are available during this
time as well.

The event kicks off with a shotgun start at 10 AM sharp, and sixsomes
will play a best ball scramble. WASBO Service Affiliate Members sponsor
hole events to make this a fun networking opportunity for everyone while
we benefit kids by raising money for student scholarships. When
registering for golf, please indicate any potential partners you would
like to be paired with (teams will consist of both school district
professionals and service affiliate vendors). Every effort will be made
to honor your preferences.
To streamline check-in and get you on the course
quickly, your online registration now includes string for your short
game, a mulligan, putting contest, and entry into drawings for cash
prizes! Just stop by the on-site registration desk to grab your name tag, string and tickets!
Registration is $95 and includes 18 holes of golf, mulligan/putting
contest/string game card, cart, lunch, beverages, networking, as well as
a late afternoon reception (4:30-6:30 PM) at the La Crosse Center/Radisson with
beverages, hot hors d'oeuvres, and the awarding of prizes.
WASBO Scholarship Bike Outing
As an alternative to the golf outing on Wednesday, WASBO offers its seventh spring bike tour. We invite you to bike The Great River Trail from Onalaska to Trempeleau, where we will stop for lunch at the Trempeleau Hotel before returning. The trail is 16 miles long, making
for a 32-mile round trip. You will need to bring your own bike and
helmet. Experienced riders will be along for the ride to assist with
mechanical issues.
The Great River Trail is part of an interconnected network of more than 100 miles of scenic trails through Western Wisconsin's Driftless Area, a region that was untouched by the last glacier. Built on an abandoned Chicago-Northwestern railroad corridor, The Great River Trail parallels the Mississippi River through forest, marsh, and prairie from Onalaska to Trempealeau and beyond. The surface is finely crushed compacted limestone, and the trail is wide enough to accommodate bikers two or three across.
The Great River State Trail is part of the Mississippi River Trail (MRT), a designated bicycle route that travels from the headwaters of the Mississippi River to Lake Itasca, Minnesota to the Delta at the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana. It is a 3000 mile system of bicycle-friendly roads and multi-use pathways. The MRT is a "string of pearls" that connects 10 state, the cities of Minneapolis, St. Louis, Memphis and New Orleans, and hundreds of smaller towns along the way. The MRT is a unique way to experience the Mississippi River's natural wonders, transportation system, recreational facilities and cultural heritage. Most of the MRT in Wisconsin is routed on Highway 35, the Great River Road.
Departure time from the trailhead in Onalaska is at 10:30 AM sharp so
plan to arrive by 10:15. For those interested in a shorter ride, you can
join us on the trail in Lytles Landing at 11 AM (we'll depart from Lytles Landing at
11:15). From there, it is 10 miles to Trempeleau. A recreational pace
should have the group in Trempeleau around 12:15 PM for lunch. After
lunch, the ride back should be about two hours to Onalaska or 45
minutes to Lytles Landing.
The Spring Bicycle Tour is a fundraising event supporting WASBO student
scholarships. The tour is $40 and includes the daily trail pass, lunch,
t-shirt, water and snacks for the ride, as well as a late afternoon
reception (4:30-6:30 PM) at the Radisson/La Crosse Center with beverages, hot hors
d'oeuvres and networking with the golfers and conference attendees. A
waiver of liability form will be provided on site for your signature.
Participants must wear bike helmets.
