Midwest School Recovery of the Year

Purpose of the Midwest School Recovery of the Year Award

The Midwest School Recovery of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding partnership between a school district, insurance provider, and restoration company that worked together to overcome a major facility emergency. Whether responding to a fire, flood, severe weather event, or another unexpected disaster, this award honors teams that demonstrated exceptional coordination, resourcefulness, and commitment to restoring safe, functional learning environments as quickly and effectively as possible.

Recipients will be recognized and asked to present at that year's Midwest Facility Masters Conference on the recovery. To nominate a project for Recovery of the Year for the 2025-26 School Year, please complete the following form. Nominations accepted through September 20, 2026. Winners will be notified by October 2, 2026. 

Eligibility Criteria

Nominators may be from a school district, restoration company, or insurance carrier. The recovery must have happened within the school year listed above.

Selection Criteria

The award application should include:
  • School District Information
  • District Administrator Information
  • Restoration Company Information
  • Insurance Company Information
  • Nominator Information
  • Date of Incident
  • Type of Incident
  • Description of the Incident, the Recovery Process, and the Final Results (Submit photos to [email protected])

Recognition

The winners will be recognized and asked to present at that year's Midwest Facility Masters Conference on the recovery. The name of the winning educational institution shall be added to the plaque in the WASBO office, and a letter of commendation shall be sent to the recipient’s organization. Press releases will be sent to the local media.

Selection Process

The selection committee will include members of the Midwest Facility Masters Conference Planning Committee. The selection committee may request additional information or seek answers to questions at its discretion. The selection committee’s decision is final.
