With professional learning to address that need with sessions related to the Coronavirus as well as ongoing operational requirements. Virtual and in person registration is available. Make a point to get the information you need as you lead in your district and community.

This year's keynote speaker was Kenny Aronoff, an American drummer who has been the sideman for many bands both live and in the studio, especially for John Mellencamp, with whom he worked from 1980 to 1996. Hear more about him here:

This amazing drummer has worked with John Mellencamp, Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, The Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Sting, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Dave Grohl, Elton John, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Jon Bon Jovi, Steven Tyler, The Smashing Pumpkins, Meatloaf, B.B. In schools, finance, business and operations professionals share many of the same goals, one of which is to provide a safe, healthy learning environment for students. While this goal may sound simple, it can be difficult to achieve, and facilities and operations are often challenging areas for business officers to manage. So how can a facilities manager and business officer get everyone on the same page? Seeking common ground and asking critical questions is a good place to start. Join us as we discuss how much capital is needed to maintain existing buildings and how it should be allocated. Plus, learn about ways you can leverage new technologies in facilities and operations to make your processes more efficient.

Everyone knows by now that converting your dim, outdated, failing lighting with new, bright, LED lighting is the only way to go. We also know that there is significant energy savings and utility rebates to do this type of upgrade, and that a new lighting project will reduce the need for constant maintenance. In this presentation, we will not discuss any of this! A lighting upgrade offers many more benefits to an educational facility than just energy-savings and reduced maintenance including safety, student performance, and teacher retention, to name a few. Let’s talk about that and how it could help you get projects approved.

For the first time in history, five generations comprise today’s workforce. And many of our most experienced workers are retiring. By 2030, 1 in 5 Americans will be 65 years or older, and we’re expecting 50% of facility managers to retire in the next decade. Blue-collar positions are notoriously harder to fill than professional positions, leaving operations executives thinking less about their daily operations and more about how to take their facilities departments into the future. We’ll take an in-depth look at the state of today’s workforce with tips to working cross-generationally, and how to utilize technology.

Building Automation Systems can be a fantastic tool to help you efficiently operate your buildings but can also be viewed as a big pain. So, how do you tell if the problem is with the mechanical equipment or the controls? Or how do you tell if both of them are doing their part but the problem lies with air or water flow balancing? And how do you know if this is something we can handle internally vs. hiring an outside contractor? This presentation will provide a quick overview of the logic behind how HVAC equipment and building automation system controls operate, how to interpret what your existing graphical interface is telling you, and how to troubleshoot some common problems. In addition, it will cover a few maintenance items that a typical BAS requires.
