The Third Step in the Risk Management Process

This course focuses on the third step of the risk management process—risk financing—and helps school leaders understand how to fund and manage losses through a balanced mix of retention, financial transfer, and insurance. Participants will explore strategies to determine total cost of risk (TCOR), manage deductibles, leverage contractual risk transfer tools, and align insurance coverage with district needs. The course also addresses budgeting, claims reserves, the role of brokers and insurance partners, and best practices for structuring agreements with contractors and independent vendors.
